The main objective of actions under the O.P. energy sector is to improve the contribution of energy toward increasing the competitiveness of the Greek economy, while respecting the country’s
environmental commitments. The priorities of this sector are as follows:
-
to improve the security of energy supplies not just in Greece but also in the European Union – keeping in mind the impending enlargement,
-
to facilitate adaptation of the energy system to EU directives mandating deregulation of the energy sector,
-
to help the Greek economy meet the Kyoto objectives for gas emissions, and to ensure that the environment is granted more consideration in energy policy.
In terms of infrastructure, the interventions include projects in the natural gas sector; improving the infrastructures for transmission and distribution of electric power; supporting the
operation of the deregulated energy market, and; the utilization of natural resources. Concerning State aid, the O.P. interventions include:
